About CERT

To make integrity the default.

We write the rules, we operate the ledger, and we guard the system. Nothing else.

Mission

To accelerate credible global climate action by certifying greenhouse gas emission reductions and removals to the highest standards of scientific rigour, transparency and governance, and by operating a secure, technology-first registry trusted by project developers, buyers, regulators and the public.

Vision

A world in which every carbon credit represents a real, additional, permanent and independently verified climate benefit — and in which CERT is the benchmark against which the integrity of carbon crediting is measured.

What we do

We write the rules — methodologies and a binding Registry Rulebook. We operate the ledger — a secure public registry of every CRU from issuance to retirement. We guard the system — independent committees, published decisions, real sanctions.

What we deliberately do not do

Develop projects. Trade credits. Provide validation or verification services. Take fees tied to issuance volumes.

Referees don’t play
CERT’s income is not linked to how many credits are issued. That single design choice removes the most common conflict of interest in carbon markets.

Our values

  • Scientific rigour. If a number can’t be verified, it doesn’t enter the ledger.
  • Radical transparency. Publish everything that a reasonable stakeholder would want to see.
  • Structural independence. Separate the people who write the rules from the people who apply them.
  • Uncompromising safeguards. No emission reduction is worth harm to communities or ecosystems.
  • Public accountability. Every decision is a document. Every document is public.
