Grievances & appeals

Independent review of contested decisions.

Any project, buyer, VVB or affected community can appeal a CERT decision or file a grievance. The Appeals & Grievance Committee is independent of the Secretariat.

What can be appealed

  • Registration decisions (approval, rejection or conditions).
  • Issuance decisions and quantities.
  • Sanctions decisions by the Ethics & Integrity Committee.
  • Methodology-application decisions.

How to file

  1. Submit a written appeal within 30 days of the decision (or grievance within 90 days of the event).
  2. The Appeals & Grievance Committee acknowledges within 5 working days.
  3. Decision issued within 60 working days. Written reasons published.

Independence

The Committee is chaired by a retired judge or senior external legal professional. Members serve fixed terms and cannot hold any other operational role in CERT.
